From Offensive Coordinator to Head Coach: Hugh Freeze's Journey
Hugh Freeze, the current head coach of Liberty University's football team, has enjoyed a remarkable career both as an offensive coordinator and a head coach. Prior to accepting his current position at Liberty, Freeze served as the offensive coordinator for the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) from 2010 to 2011, where he helped lead the Rebels to back-to-back bowl appearances.
Allegations and the Parting of Ways
However, Freeze's tenure at Ole Miss came to an abrupt end in 2017 when he was forced to resign amidst allegations of misconduct involving a call to an escort service. The university's internal investigation revealed that Freeze had made several phone calls to the service while serving as head coach.
Redemption at Liberty
Following his departure from Ole Miss, Freeze was hired as the head coach at Liberty University in 2019. In his first season, he led the Flames to their first-ever bowl game appearance, a feat he repeated in 2020. Liberty has continued to improve under Freeze's leadership, posting an impressive 10-1 record in the 2022 regular season.
